Procedures: Stages/Time Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm-up (5 minutes) -T prepares some pictures of famous people with their jobs in jumble. -T asks Ss to match the people corresponding to their jobs. PEOPLE’S BACKGROUND Lesson SPEAKING I. Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Conduct an interview, using the simple present tense, present continuous and simple past tense correctly. II. Language Focus: Grammar: As mentioned above. New words: III. Teaching Aids: Textbooks, pictures IV. Procedures: Stages/Time Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm-up (7 minutes) - T asks Ss a question “Do you want to know about your friend’s background?” – “I think it’s very interesting. -T asks Ss to work in pairs to conduct a short interview about their partners. -T goes around the class and helps Ss. -T leads into the new lesson “In order to conduct an effective interview, today we are going to practise conducting it”. -Ss close the textbook, and answer the question. -Ss work in pairs, making interviews. -Ss listen and enter the new lesson. Pre-speaking 10 minutes Task 1 -T introduces the situation clearly. -T asks Ss to work in pairs. -T asks Ss to make as many kinds of questions as possible to know about a person’s background. -T goes around the classroom and helps students while they are practising. -T asks some Ss to read aloud their results. Post- speaking 10 minutes Task 3 -T explains the requirements of the task clearly. -T divides the class into small groups, lets Ss talk about the person they have learnt about from the interview. -T gives a topic to each group and asks them to make a short conversation. -T goes around the class and helps them. -T invites some representatives to present their talks before the class. -Ss work in groups of four, talking about their topic just given by teacher. -Ss present their talks. Homework 3 minutes -T asks Ss to prepare a short introduction about themselves. - Ss listen and take notes Date: October 2nd, 2008 Period 15 Unit 3(cont.) PEOPLE’S BACKGROUND Lesson LISTENING I. Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Listen to get some information about Sally, a world’s champion. II. Language Focus: Grammar: Revision New words: champion, diploma, romantic . . . III. Teaching Aids: Pictures in the textbook, cassette, extra board . . . IV. Procedures: Stages/Time Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm-up (5 minutes) -T sticks some pictures of sports and their names on the board. -T calls Ss to go to the board to stick the right pictures with their names. -T gives remarks in front of the class. -T leads into the new lesson. “Today we will practise listening to a conversation talking about Sally, a world’s champion”. -Ss close the textbook, and look at the board. - Ss go to the board and do the exercise as guided. -Ss listen to T and enter the new lesson. Pre-writing 15minutes Task 1 -T explains how to do the task 1. -T introduces clearly about Mr. Brown’s curriculum vitae and explains necessary information involved in a curriculum vitae for applying for a job. -T asks Ss to work in groups of five to develop into full sentneces. -T asks some representatives of groups to write their sentences on the board. -T remarks their sentences and gives out the correct answers. * Expected answers: David Brown was born on Nov. 12th, 1969 in Boston. He attended Kensington High School and passed exams in English, French and Math. He worked as a tourist guide from June 1991 to Dec. 1998 and then worked as a hotel telephonist from Mar. 1999 to May 2002. While-writing 15 minutes Task 3 -T explains the requirements of Task 3 clearly. -T asks Ss to work individually to write a paragraph about their partner’s parent. -T goes around the class to get feedbacks from them. -T gets feedbacks from Ss and remarks them. -Ss listen to T’s guidance. -Ss work individually and write a paragraph. -Ss give their feedbacks to teacher. Post- writing 8 minutes -T invites Ss to read out their paragraph before the class. -T asks other Ss to listen and try to find out their friend’s mistakes in writing. PEOPLE’S BACKGROUND Lesson LANGUAGE FOCUS I. Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: Pronounce exactly and fluently the sounds / e / and / ổ / in words and its sentences. Use the past prefect correctly and distinguish it with the past simple tense. II. Language Focus: Grammar: The past perfect tense. New words: III. Teaching Aids: Textbooks IV. Procedures: Stages/Time Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Warm-up (5 minutes) Table completion -T asks Ss to work in groups and gives each groups a table containing 10 verbs. -T tells Ss to complete the table following the instruction. -The group which completes the table first and has more correct verbs will be the winner, for example. Pro-nunciation 5 minutes Activity 1 – Listen and repeat -T demonstrates the sounds / e / and / ổ / by pronouncing them exactly and clearly. -T instructs the ways to pronounce: + / e / : first pronounce the sound /I/, then open your mouth a little more. + / œ / : first pronounce the sound / e /, then open your mouth a little more. -T asks Ss to pronounce the sounds several times. -T makes sure that Ss are aware of the difference between the two sounds. Tape script listening test grade 10- 2008 The world population is growing rapidly. There are nearly 7 billion people in the world today. Every year, the Earth family has 76 million new members. The main reason for this rapid growth is the fall in the death rate. As people are now better looked after, they live longer. The explosion of population has caused serious problems, especially for Third World countries. They lack food, housing, hospitals and schools. Large, poor families in these countries are living in poor conditions. The governments of developing countries need to raise their people’s awareness of the population explosion. A strict family planning should be introduced and the people should have access to safe, inexpensive birth control methods. Some countries in Asia have taken these measures and gained encouraging results. Let’s take Vietnam for example,
